Case 03 · Impact investing

Better introductions, every week.

A platform connecting investors with entrepreneurs by market and sector, and now AI that suggests the introductions worth making.

Client
An invitation-only network of impact investors

Platform build · AI upgrade
01The brief

An invitation-only network of impact investors, partnered with peer platforms, wanted one place where investors and institutions could find entrepreneurs in the cities, regions and sectors they care about.

02What the team built
  • A mobile-first website for the network that works across devices and browsers
  • A platform that brings together investors, entrepreneurs, support organisations and service providers in any market or sector
  • Ready-made infrastructure connecting the network with partner platforms

Built by our engineering team. The client is described, not named.

03The AI upgrade

Deal-flow matching

Every pitch deck that reaches the network is read by a small team, its facts typed into the platform by hand, and the right investors worked out from memory and spreadsheets. Each introduction is then written one at a time. Decks sit in the queue for weeks, and investors only see the opportunities someone happened to remember them for. The network's value is the quality of its introductions, and that is capped by how many decks a few people can read.

Where the time goes today

Reading each deck and typing its facts into the platform
10–12 hrs a week
Working out which investors should see it, from memory and spreadsheets
6–8 hrs a week
Writing each introduction by hand
5–6 hrs a week

With the upgrade

Same week
every deck profiled and in front of the investors it fits, instead of weeks in a queue
~15 hrs
a week back for the network's team
Every deck
seen by every investor it suits, not only the ones someone remembered

Estimates. Based on a network receiving 40–50 pitch decks a week across its markets and sectors. Every project starts with an Audit that measures the real numbers first.

How it works

  1. 01Pitch decks and profiles are read into structured data (sector, stage, market, impact area and amount sought) and checked against the network's criteria.
  2. 02Each opportunity is compared with every investor's stated interests and past decisions.
  3. 03Each investor gets a weekly shortlist of introductions, each with the reasons behind it, and the introduction email is drafted.
  4. 04Accepted and declined introductions feed back into future matches.

What stays with people

The network's team approves every introduction before it is sent. The AI suggests; people decide who meets whom.

What we measure

  • Hours a week the team spends reading decks and preparing introductions, before and after
  • Time from deck received to first introduction sent, and the share of suggested introductions investors accept
  • Deck facts (sector, stage, amount sought) checked by the team against the deck: the target is none wrong
04Why it takes a team

The AI is the easy part. This is the rest.

  • 01Confidential documents that must never leak between members
  • 02Access rules on an invitation-only network
  • 03Matches that explain themselves
  • 04A feedback loop that improves without drifting
